What troubles the parents most is inculcating healthy food habits in their toddlers. Almost every parent has the same story to narrate about the childcare. Toddlers often at times, remain fussy about what they eat or refuse to eat completely. While they are actively paying attention to the new things that surround their day, they often pay less attention to their food. This becomes a serious issue of concern for parents around the world.
Teaching good food habits to toddlers, therefore, becomes essential for the parents to benefit their toddler's development. Here is a range of tips that parents can employ to inculcate healthy food habits in their toddlers:
- Experiment with food: Discover a range of tastes for your toddler by experimenting with new foods every day. You never know when a miracle happens, and your child ends up liking the food you just prepared. Disguise food as something more enticing and make it appear colorful.
- Practice what you preach: Make eating an interactive game for your toddler and participate happily in it. Kids imitate what they see around themselves and seeing you eat healthy and nutritious food happily will motivate them to take a bite or two.
- Make meals enjoyable: Make mealtimes more enjoyable for your toddler and less of a stressful situation which they want to avoid. Praise them for trying new foods than punishing them for not finishing everything on the plate.
- Serve more liquids: As toddlers show less acceptance of solid food at this age, what you can do is wrap the nutrients in the form of liquids and serve them. Keep them hydrated as they involve in a lot of play at this age. At the same time, avoid serving packaged juices and drinks.
- Fix regular intervals: Don't let your child eat whenever he or she wants, just by getting swayed in emotions. This will fill your baby's tummy and you will wonder why your child has not been eating properly. Serve food at regular intervals and avoid them from skipping the meal times.
